Description
WCHS is looking for a creative, detail-oriented Newscast Director/Editor to join our award-winning Content Center in Charleston, West Virginia.This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced newsroom serving southern West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and southeastern Ohio across ABC 8, FOX 11, digital platforms, streaming, and social media. We're looking for someone who thrives under deadline pressure, enjoys being part of a collaborative team, and takes pride in producing high-quality local journalism.
As a Newscast Director/Editor, you'll play a critical role in bringing our newscasts and special programming to life while supporting our Content Center's mission to deliver compelling, community-focused storytelling across every platform.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform a variety of production duties, including:
- Direct live and recorded newscasts using automated production systems
- Video editing for daily newscasts, digital platforms, special projects, and promotional content
- Operate production switchers, audio boards, graphics systems, and other control room equipment
- Coordinate closely with producers, anchors, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and newsroom managers to execute clean, accurate, and visually compelling broadcasts
- Prepare and organize production elements before each newscast
- Maintain high production standards while adapting quickly during breaking news and severe weather coverage
- Monitor technical quality and troubleshoot production issues as they arise
- Assist with studio camera operation and other production responsibilities as assigned
- Help maintain production studios and control room equipment
- Contribute to special event coverage, election programming, sports specials, and community broadcasts
- Shoot video in the field, and run reporter live shots, using news camera equipment
- Archive video
- Coordinate with management and master control centers on show impacts due to network sportscasts and other special events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned that support the overall success of the Content Center
Qualifications
- Experience directing television newscasts or live productions preferred
- Experience with non-linear video editing
- Experience with automated production systems such as Ross OverDrive is a plus
- Familiarity with iNews newsroom computer system preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in a live production environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and breaking news situations
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds when necessary
- Broadcast production, communications, or related education preferred, or equivalent professional experience
