Description

Job Summary:

The Network Program Director position exists to influence this generation to love and follow Jesus through culturally relevant media. The main function of the position is to ensure that strategic and tactical objectives are being met consistently. Help learn, grow, and facilitate effective fundraising practices. Serving as a key leader within the content team, the program director leads all aspects of radio programming in alignment with Hope Media Group’s mission, vision and values. Leadership areas include music rotations, imaging, promotions, community appearances & service projects in collaboration with key stakeholders with key attention given to market research and industry best practice. The Program Director is responsible to create a world class radio product that sets the standard in our listenership markets and beyond and build on terrestrial radio success to innovate and position Hope Media Group for future digital growth. 

Essential Functions

Leadership

  • Execute a product that sets the standard for Christian radio on terrestrial and digital platforms. 
  • Formulate strategies for attracting, maintaining, and increasing audience.
  • Lead weekly music meetings, adjust song rotations, participate in research to ensure maximum listenership
  • Schedule music and daily logs
  • Monitor quality, accuracy & content and provide weekly coaching to on air talent.
  • Analyze & craft strategy to grow Nielsen ratings while building stronger listener loyalty for the Way FM brand.
  • Write copy & produce audio as needed for imaging, station promos, and other brand objectives.
  • Partner with digital content team to ensure online presence is relevant and in alignment with brand objectives. 
  • Coordinate with WMNS ASM to oversee the traffic of all WMNS spots. Responsible for emergency/day-of production needs as assigned by Chief of Programming.
  • Create and compile music research, participate in weekly music meeting, select new music to add to playlist, schedule music logs, receive music tracking calls, and distribute playlists and music information to O&O stations. 
  • Develop and maintain an acute understanding of WMNS automation and scheduling systems (Zetta / GSelector) so as to provide training and troubleshooting capabilities as well as recommended upgrades and/or changes to general operations of these systems.
  • Facilitate artist visits to record Word on the Way promos, on air & digital content. 
  • Interface with all department heads as necessary to coordinate the consistent operation of WMNS.
  • Regular/on-going communication with the Chief of Programming

Content Development

  • Partner with Hope Media Group talent & consultants to cultivate and refine on air content. 
  • Collaborate with talent on development of podcast & digital content that both supports HMG brands like Hope On Demand, World’s Biggest Smallgroup & Amen: The Prayer App. 
  • Go live on air, or voice track as needed.

Fundraising

  • Proactively develop year-round fundraising messaging. 
  • Proactively lead Pledge Drive / Sharathon fundraisers.
  • Represent Hope Media Group at Donor Engagement / fundraising events.
  • Help learn, grow, and facilitate effective fundraising practices.

Cross-Departmental Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Creative Audio Services to ensure all produced messaging is consistent with mission, vision, values and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with Marketing department to ensure all external and digital marketing align with market research and industry best practice.
  • Collaborate with Digital Content team on video, website, social media and other pieces as needed.
  • Collaborate with Special Events department on concert opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Promotions team and represent in the community, as needed.
  • Participate in organizational project teams as required.
  • Oversight and guidance of WAY-FM Operation Directors at O&O stations. Act as first point of contact with OD’s for troubleshooting and maintain 1-on-1 meetings with each to help grow their abilities and act as a liaison between WMNS and the local stations.

Demonstrated Faith

  • Pray for coworkers in team meetings
  • Lead prayer in large group settings as needed 
  • Pray for donors when called upon to do so
  • Use Christian principles to work through conflict as outlined by the Culture tool kit
  • Participate in Sharathon & Generous Justice community outreach campaigns and pray for donors over the phone as needed 
  • Participate in ministry wide Christian bible studies
  • Attend weekly Staff Gatherings for prayer and devotions

Non-Essential Functions

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years related experience

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years Broadcasting experience as Program Director, Assistant PD, Operations Director or related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of radio scheduling/broadcasting software and applications, including Zetta, G-Selector, VoxPro, Audio Post-Editing tools (such as ProTools or Adobe Audition).
  • Demonstrated experience with Nielsen PPM & Diary ratings strategies.
  • Detail oriented and proactive.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to positively lead and influence others and align a team to mission, vision, values and organizational goals.
  • Experience creating & coaching radio content that connects people more deeply to God.
  • Biblically literate and able to articulate a Christian worldview through media content. 
  • Highly creative, an idea generator, an innovator
  • Joyful attitude and sense of humor
  • Strong on-air presence
  • Remarkable, compelling on-air personality
  • Skilled storyteller
  • Established base of social media followers, preferred
  • Proven ability to create and engage a tribe of fans
  • Heart for Christian ministry

  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Spiritually grounded and working knowledge of scripture
  • Must be an active member of a Bible believing local church

Supervisory Responsibilities

Immediate supervision over a unit, section or department. Recommends candidates for hiring, termination; prepares and conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews, and applies company policies.
